Introducing Lemon Balm, our fragrant and chilled out herbal helper for your pregnancy journey.
What is Lemon Balm?
Lemon balm is a perennial herb from the mint family. The leaves, which have a mild lemon aroma, are used to make medicine. Lemon balm is used alone or as part of various multi-herb combination products such as those in the MaterniTea range.
How does it help during pregnancy?
During pregnancy, women often find their additional weight, large bump and restless mind cause them to have difficulty sleeping.
Lemon balm is believed to have calming effects which can be used to help treat anxiety, sleep problems, and restlessness.
How does it work?
Lemon balm contains rosmarinic acid (a chemical compound with antioxidant properties). The herb is also useful in treating cold sores, high cholesterol, genital herpes, indigestion, and heartburn.
The terpenes of the Lemon Balm, part of its pleasant smelling essential oils, produce this herb’s relaxing and gas-relieving effects.
The combination of Lemon Balm and other herbs such as peppermint are effective for calming upset stomach, extremely common during pregnancy and post birth recovery as the progesterone hormone and other pregnancy related intrusions cause the digestive system to slow and become sluggish.
Lemon balm is also a wonderful tonic for helping treat skin conditions. Aside from the intense pressure placed on our skin as it expands to accommodate our growing bump during pregnancy, hormones often cause our skin to become dry itchy or oily. Lemon Balm is calming, soothing, healing on the skin, whilst also helping stimulate circulation. It is thought to be great herb for treating acne.
Where Can I find Lemon Balm?
We use this wonderful herb in our PURITEA, ACTIVITEA and PROSPERITEA blends.
