I gotta pee… AGAIN! - pregnancy symptom or UTI?
One of the common side effects right throughout your pregnancy is the frequency in which you’ll find yourself needing to pee.
This is due to a number of factors including hormones, pressure on the bladder and the increased water you should be drinking whilst pregnant.
However while regularly needing to visit the bathroom is nothing to be concerned about, there is the risk that it could be a sign of a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI).
UTI’s are very common in women in general, because the urethra (tube that carries your pee from the bladder to the outside) is very near to the anus and therefore bacteria do not have far to travel to get in there and create an infection.
The high levels of progesterone present during pregnancy, relax the tubes of the urinary system, making it a lot easier for bacteria to enter and infect the bladder and kidneys.
A UTI may cause you to need to pee more frequently, cause a stinging or burning sensation, may include some blood within the urine and a sensation of never really feeling like your bladder has been emptied after you’ve been.
It’s really important to be on the lookout for any signs of infection and seek treatment from your GP if necessary. You may be prescribed antibiotics or an oral solution.
You can help reduce your changes of contracting a UTI during pregnancy by following these tips:
1- Drink plenty of water.
This helps your body flush toxins away from your body.
